WELCOME TO SULLY U3A
The u3a is an organisation aimed at offering activities for people who are in their Third Age. The Third Age refers to the period after the First Age of childhood dependence and the Second Age of full-time employment and parental responsibility. One in four of the UK population is in the Third Age.
Anyone in their Third Age can join our u3a and this includes people who are working part time. There is no lower age limit for membership of the u3a.
Sully u3a is a welcoming, friendly community for people who are retired or no longer working full-time. It is a place to keep learning, share what you know and enjoy good company—without exams, qualifications or pressure. Members shape what we do, drawing on their own knowledge, experience and enthusiasm to create affordable activities that reflect local interests.
Sully u3a, just like any other u3a around the UK, is a self-help, low cost organisation providing opportunities through general meetings and a variety of interest groups. No qualifications are required and none are given.
Joining can open the door to fresh experiences, new friendships and a renewed sense of purpose. The national u3a and me Research Report captures the difference membership can make. As one member put it, “u3a has given me a whole new lease of life, with new friends and interests.” Another explained, “u3a gives me an incentive to go out, meet like-minded people, and keep physically and mentally active.”

Whether you would like to explore history, languages, music, literature, technology, crafts, games, walking or another interest, there is plenty to discover. Groups are relaxed and sociable: some are led by members with experience to share, while others learn together. You can try something unfamiliar, return to a long-standing passion, or suggest a new group. Visit the Groups tab to see the current range and find what appeals to you.
Meet us in Sully!
Our members come from Sully and neighbouring communities including Penarth, Dinas Powys, Wenvoe, Barry and Rhoose. We meet at 2.00 pm on the second Thursday of every month at The Old School, Sully CF64 5TG, on the main road through the village next to the church. General meetings are an easy way to hear an interesting speaker, catch up over a conversation and find out what is happening across our groups.

You do not need to arrive with special knowledge or know anyone already. Bring your curiosity, choose the level of involvement that suits you and meet people who enjoy staying interested in the world. Many members begin with one meeting or group, then discover more possibilities as familiar faces become friends and shared interests lead to new adventures. Sully u3a is self-funded, self-managed and run by members for members, which helps keep costs low and the atmosphere informal. A warm welcome awaits!
